Jura Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review

I was introduced to Jura Whisky at a dinner party earlier this year. After my first taste of what was served to me – Jura Superstition – I was hooked. I went out and purchased my own bottle the very next day. Since then, Jura has become one of my favorite brands of whisky and is always present in my home bar.

Jura Whisky is crafted at a beautiful distillery on the Isle of Jura off the West Coast of Scotland. The diverse flavours are created through the combination of carefully sourced ingredients and a unique distillation process. Hand-selected barley for malting, pure water from the local Bhaille Mharghaidh spring, long maturation in casks that once contained some of the world’s finest wines, sherries and bourbons, and the unique tall stills all join forces to create Jura’s award winning whiskies.

More recently, I had the opportunity to try two more of their expressions – Diurachs’ Own and Prophecy – and I highly recommend them to any whisky aficionado. Here is a breakdown of each.

Diurachs’ Own ($69)

Rich & full-bodied with hints of citrus fruit and toffee

This expression bides its time for 14 years in American white oak before spending a final two years in ex-Amoroso Oloroso sherry casks for an unbelievably full- bodied finish. You’ll get hints of dark chocolate, orange and honey. Its 16-year journey has provided countless flavours for you to explore.

Prophecy ($75)

Heavily peated with fresh cinnamon and spicy sea spray

Matured without chill filtration for a huge peaty punch, this complex whisky is aged in Limousine oak casks. Some taste peat smoke, fresh cinnamon and spicy sea spray, but like any great story, it’s all open to interpretation.
