The next winter snow storm will be hitting the midwest and northeastern United States soon, according to various weather forecasts. Snow has been forecast in two separate storms throughout the week, with the first being less severe than the second. This is because the second storm is expected to gather strength as it hovers over the Great Lakes and become colder due to winds coming from Canada. In both cases, it will be the first time some areas in the United States will see snow this year. Here’s when winter storms are expected to impact the US this week in the middle of November 2024.
When will a winter storm impact the US this week?
A winter storm is expected to hit the northeastern United States through Thursday and Friday as a low-pressure system moves through the Great Lakes on Wednesday.
In an analysis by Fox Weather, the majority of the snow is expected to impact the Appalachian Mountains through southern Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and western Virginia. However, several regions in other states, mainly throughout the Ohio Valley, can expect around a foot of snow in addition to some rain in New York, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky.
Weather expert Ryan Hall, who is known for his channel on Youtube, agrees that this storm will hit the northeastern US on Thursday and Friday too. Powerful wind gusts along the western and southern side of the storm will push snow and cold air toward the center of Ohio and West Virginia, in part due to lake-effect snow that is common during this time of year for areas around the Great Lakes. This storm will be accompanied by possible heavy rain in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.
A forecast from FOX Weather of an earlier storm, from Tuesday to Thursday, says that snow will fall in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. A system impacting the Texas and Oklahoma on Monday will be moving north and be blasted by arctic air for widespread snow in the region. In fact, some areas of North Dakota and Minnesota are projected to get an accumulated 3 to 12 feet of snow, so roads will be particularly dangerous there.
