Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Could Be Disrupted by NYC Winter Storm

The 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is inching closer and rehearsals are underway. The iconic annual event has continued to mesmerize onlookers for many years. However, things are not looking good for this year’s edition, which will be held on November 28 in New York City, due to a winter storm. Rain has been forecast, posing potential challenges for the event. Nonetheless, the preparations for the beloved parade are in full swing.

New York City weather: Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade 2024 may not go smoothly

According to FOX Weather, the winter storm has been intensifying in the Northeast. The FOX Forecast Center has said rain is expected across the region on Thursday. Moreover, the winds will start to pick up later in the afternoon. The rain totals are forecasted to range from a half-inch to an inch. It is expected to fall over the course of 6-12 hours.

The FOX Forecast Center has also noted the wind is expected to pick up when the ramping-up storm moves offshore. It can further result in colder temperatures and stronger winds. However, there are concerns about the storm moving through New York City earlier than expected. This is because the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade features massive balloons. The strong winds can also tamper with the safety measures.

FOX 5 reported that this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade includes 22 elaborate floats and 17 massive balloons. Meanwhile, the lineup also features exciting performances by Kylie Minogue, Charli D’Amelio, Jennifer Hudson, and Jimmy Fallon & The Roots. Brendan Kennedy, Macy’s Creative Director, shared, “We’ve been planning all year for the great holiday that is Thanksgiving, and to provide that soundtrack for everyone’s holiday.”

There are concerns over the wind as it can affect how high the Thanksgiving balloons can fly during the parade. Despite the rainy day forecast, FOX 5 meteorologist Nick Gregory has noted there should not be enough wind to seriously affect the balloons at the celebration.
