Google Fiber could be coming to your city, after Google has announced that it will be continuing its expansion across 34 cities in 9 major regions.
The high-speed Internet service, which starts with a connection that is up to 100 times faster than average broadband speeds, is scheduled to be rolled out in 34 further undisclosed locations after a successful rollout in Kansas City.
Google has performed checks on the 34 new cities in order to check whether or not they meet the requirements to host Fiber, and all have been successful. Now Google is working alongside local governments to work through the process of constructing “fiber huts”, which are used to direct its Internet service to customers on city-owned land.
Each of the 34 cities Google Fiber will be introduced to were asked to complete a checklist, due to be returned to Google on May 1st. According to Google, all of the checklists were returned with positive results, meaning that its steady expansion of the service can continue.
One of the cities that have been revealed as hosting Google Fiber is Austin, Texas, with Google planning to connect many public institutions for free, including schools and hospitals.
