Stephen Hawking Reveals He’s Not a Big Fan of Online Porn

Stephen Hawking: Genius. Theoretical physicist. Philanthropist. Not much of a porn guy.

Professor Hawking recently opened up about his thoughts on the progression of the internet and the influence of modern technology on our lives in an interview with the BBC, and during the interview he revealed what he believes to be the damaging aspects of the World Wide Web.

When asked to give his opinion on the web, Hawking replied: “The internet has brought a lot benefits, but it has its own drawbacks such as pornography and threatening messages.” Not that we’d ever really considered whether or not Hawking was into porn, but sometimes it’s just nice to know where people smarter than you and I stand on everyday issues such as people rutting on camera.

Another criticism Hawking had to make regarding the internet was that it’s being used as a “command center for criminals and terrorists,” which is more-or-less the same rhetoric given by the NSA to justify their snooping into the underwear drawers of US citizens.

But just as we were about to start raising our eyebrow at the physicist, he said something that won us back all over again. Speaking about the constant improvements being made to artificial intelligence and robotics, Hawking replied: “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.”

He continued: “Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete, and would be superseded.”

So Hawkings is on the same wagon as SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, who recently said that living in a dystopian future in which AI has taken over the world could be a possibility. While we’d probably be a bit bummed out by it when it happened, the thought of living in a Terminator-esque world certainly intrigues the sci-fi fans in us, and we can imagine that all the “I’LL BE BACK!” and “Give me your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle” jokes would be hilarious for the first week or so.
