NAIAS 2015: Alfa Romeo Spins a 4C Spider

The final word in Italian sports roadsters is making its return to the U.S., peeking out from behind the curtain at NAIAS 2015. Alfa Romeo, long lost to the U.S. market until last year and the arrival of the 4C, continued its slow and romantic return to America with the debut of the 4C Spider

The original Spider hatched in Italy circa 1966, with new versions entertaining European roads in 1996 and 2006. The U.S. market hasn’t seen a new Spider in showrooms until this year, making the 4C version a welcome reunion for yankee enthusiasts.

The Spider takes most of its styling cues directly from the previous 4C, adding more aggressive scoops and a removable roof. The gorgeous and unmistakable inverted triangle grill and badge are right where they should be.

The 4C Spider is essentially a tiny, two-seat, mid-engined super car. That mid-mounted engine is only 1.75 liters, but it’s pushing a carbon fiber body that weighs less than a tarantula. When you turbocharge that mix, it produces 237 horsepower and a blistering 0-60 mph time of in 4.1 seconds.

No price was released at NAIAS 2015, but we do know the car will be for sale in the U.S. this summer.
