A selection of stills released by the company highlight the device’s curved screen, which bends around both of its edges (taking it one step further than the Galaxy Note Edge, which only featured a singular curve), and a seemingly larger display. It’s uncertain how the screen size will stack up to the mighty iPhone 6 Plus, but considering that Samsung were the purveyor of larger screened modern smartphones, it should be expected that they’re looking to match its 5.5-inch display.
A big improvement indicated by the stills is its new, metallic casing, a far cry from the faux-leather and plastic designs of previous Galaxy models. One of the biggest flaws of previous Galaxy devices was their lightweight, altogether cheap feel, with the S5’s design being deemed a key factor in its disappointing sales and lukewarm consumer reaction. A switch to a metallic look will certainly help the hardware achieve that high-end look, something which it needs to do if it hopes to compete with the record-breaking iPhone 6.
Samsung Unpacked will take place on March 1st in Barcelona. The company has revealed that they will not be hosting the event in any other cities, though foreign viewers can watch the Samsung Galaxy S6’s unveiling via livestream.
