This spring, Callaway has a golfer’s game covered from the tee and on the green with the premiere of Chrome Soft Balls, the latest edition of its Big Berta driver and new Odyssey putters.
The Chrome Soft Balls are a fresh addition to the Callaway line for spring 2015. A low compression rating is the key element here in an effort to allow average golfers to compress the ball the way a professional takes it to a standard or high compression pellet. The Callaway-coined SoftCore promises low spin, more speed and better loft for the driver — with more control with irons and around the green.
Once at the tee, the Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 Driver (top — $499) coins a new category for the club maker while honoring the proud tradition of the iconic club. Employing a massive club face that offers you more sweet spot without adding significant weight to the club, the Alpha offers the average golfer his or her best shot at solid driving.

And, while in testing, U.S. Airways broke my 815 – shattering the shaft. I can report that Callaway stands by their warranties as I have the club back in my bag, free.
Finally, the newest, most appealing addition to Callaway’s Odyssey Putter collection is the Odyssey Works Versa 2-Ball Fang ($199). It takes is names from the curling flanges to each side of the club face — providing a weight balance that stabilizes the putter on setup and address.
I was playing a blade putter from another major manufacturer for a couple years, but this 2-Ball creation worked its way into my bag full time and retired that soldier for good.
