Aussie Apple Watch Apps Announced Ahead Of Launch

If you are still undecided about whether you’ll buy an Apple Watch when they’re launched on April 24, there are some Aussie companies out there hoping to help you make the commitment.

Woolworths have released details of their app offering, after Apple inadvertently announced the existence of the supermarket app during the watch’s launch event in March.

The ‘Woolies Shop’ app will work in tandem with the iPhone app, allowing customers to view shopping lists, but will also help them to navigate stores, and include the ‘Glance’ feature, “that will show the nearest store including the location, walking and driving distance and opening hours,” Fairfax Media report.

Other big names to confirm that they’ll have apps ready to go for the early-adopters include real estate giants Domain and REA Group (realestate.com.au), who have both announced apps that will be available when the watch launches, and will allow users to monitor and search the property market from their wrists.

REA Group Chief Product Officer Henry Ruiz also spruiked the watch’s benefits to vendors and agents, saying “This opens up a whole new realm of possibilities to capture the interest of potential buyers who ‘stumble across’ properties in their immediate area.”

However, it’s not just the big players getting involved in the new tech, with a number of local startups taking advantage of the possibilities the watch presents.

Invoice2Go, small businesses invoicing and expense tracking service, and Airtasker, which allows users to outsource work, both announced Apple Watch apps soon after the device was launched.

Invoice2Go founder Chris Strode told Mashable in March, “It comes down to the fact that certain things make more sense to do from your wrist, and we want to be the first ones to do that.”

Whether these offerings will be enough for people to open their wallets and actually buy the Apple Watch, though, is yet to be seen.
