N.Y. Collections | Timo Weiland S/S16

Timo Weiland, one of the first few designers to show during the highly anticipated, inaugural New York Fashion Week Men’s shows, set the perfect stage for Spring Summer 2016. The theme, “I love you more than being seventeen”, a line sung by Julian Casablancas of The Strokes in the song “Evening Sun,” emphasizes the collection’s cool, youthful summer vibe.

When asked about the design concept for this season’s collection, as well as the choice of staging, Weiland said, “It’s all about summer in the city. The TV is on, but no one is watching”. All eyes were definitely on the slim-fit-yet-classic pieces worn by the “too cool for school” models. From washed silk and Egyptian cotton to summer wool and Italian seersucker, Timo Weiland is spot on with what stylish young men with a relaxed attitude are searching for.

The first look in the collection, a Tommy washed silk striped tee, classic shorts and a four-pocket linen denim jacket with suede trim, was a smooth indicator of who the Timo Weiland man is. Smart separates continue to reinforce this charming collection, like the green and black contrast sweater (which had matching shorts, worn separately of course), track pants, a contrasting pocket button-down shirt and wide leg pants – all pieces that easily transfer into a guy’s current wardrobe.

With a strong, insightful focus on jackets for the season, Timo Weiland presented a silk jacquard bomber jacket, suede baseball jacket, car coats, and a jacket made from Japanese denim, just to cover all the bases. Completing the “chill guy” persona, many of the models wore eyewear with reflective lenses by Cutler and Gross, further solidifying their cool factor. This well-rounded collection is sure to be a customer favorite.
