Behind the scenes at Marvel Comics, it’s long been rumored that the major push for the Inhumans is coming at the expense of the X-Men, since Marvel Studios is planning an Inhumans movie and the movie rights to X-Men remain at Fox. Now that conflict is actually boiling over into the Marvel Universe itself!
Eight months after Secret Wars, the X-Men and Mutants in general are in dire straights thanks to the Inhumans and the Terrigen mists. Cyclops, Emma Frost and other prominent X-Men are missing, with only a few heroes left to save their race from extinction. The first preview pages from Marvel’s upcoming Extraordinary X-Men # 1 catches up with Jean Grey, the teenager from the past whose attempts to lead a normal life are disrupted by the new X-Men team led by Storm. After hearing Storm out, Jean won’t be able to turn her back on her people for much longer.
The covers for Extraordinary X-Men # 1 indicate that the team will consist of Jean, Storm, Iceman, Magik, Colossus, and Old Man Logan, an alternate version of Wolverine from one of the worlds that was destroyed during Secret Wars. The primary cover is by Ramos, the Magik cover by J. Scott Campbell, and a cosplay model poses as Jean Grey for the third cover, which is part of Marvel’s Cosplay variant cover month.
Writer Jeff Lemire and artist Humberto Ramos are the new creative team of Extraordinary X-Men # 1, which will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, October 14.
