New rumors about X-Men and Wolverine‘s future in the MCU have emerged. These offer insights into how Marvel will possibly tackle the characters moving forward, while also addressing lingering queries. With Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier hard at work on the upcoming reboot focusing on the iconic superhero team, fans are looking forward to the day when they will get more information on the same.
List of X-Men and Wolverine rumors
Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus recently participated in a Q&A session moderated by Lizzie Hill, where he answered burning queries about the MCU’s future. During the interaction, he offered updates about the highly anticipated X-Men reboot.
X-Men team to include 5 core members
Perez backed the rumor suggesting the X-Men reboot’s lineup will feature five core members. Traditionally, in comics and most media, this has included Cyclops (Scott Summers), Jean Grey, Beast (Hank McCoy), Iceman (Bobby Drake), and Angel/Archangel (Warren Worthington III).
However, he told fans not to expect a team size like the one seen in Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97. He added that the lineup will include the five core members and three more mutants, while also saying not to expect Logan/Wolverine’s inclusion.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine future
Perez shared that it’s possible for Marvel to retain Hugh Jackman as Wolverine following Avengers: Secret Wars, where the character is expected to appear. He also said it was similarly likely for Dafne Keen’s Laura/X-23, who first appeared in 2017’s Logan and returned in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, to become the main MCU Wolverine.
Don’t expect X-Men ’97’s MCU connections
Perez cast doubt on the possibility of X-Men ’97 Season 2 tying into the MCU. This is despite the first season mentioning Absolute Points — a concept explored in What If…? — while highlighting the Genoshan genocide and chatter about a Kang variant or Rama-Tut, possibly the same one seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, showing up in the sophomore installment.
New X-Men may not be in Avengers: Secret Wars
Perez shared that the possibility of the X-Men MCU reboot cast showing up in Avengers: Secret Wars is “very difficult.”
