The iPhone Upgrade Programme has finally made its way to the UK, with the popular service having expanded beyond the US for the first time. This means that those looking to purchase an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus can now do so directly from Apple, with an unlocked version of the smartphone available to purchase from £33.45 per month.
The iPhone Upgrade Programme’s UK debut was confirmed during this week’s Apple Event, with the company’s CEO Tim Cook also revealing that it would make its way to China, too. By visiting the Apple site users can sign up to the programme, selecting their monthly plan before receiving their brand new device. Pre-orders for the upcoming phone are being taken today, though due to the high demand shipments are already being delayed past the iPhone 7’s launch date on September 16.
The programme allows subscribers to be able to receive a new iPhone yearly, without them having to wait until their contract expires with their carrier in order to make an upgrade. While this means that you will need to find your own carrier in order to use your unlocked iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, Apple states that their specialists will help you choose your carrier and tariff in-store. This effectively means that you can pick your own contract or opt for a pay-as-you-go plan.
You can, of course, go the expensive route and sign up to the iPhone Upgrade Programme while still under contract with your current carrier. However, this will mean that you will therefore commit to paying two monthly fees, so this is not the most fiscally reasonable option.
Signing up to the iPhone Upgrade Programme requires a 20-month installation agreement, with you also being covered by AppleCare+ for the duration of this 20 month period. You are eligible to receive a brand new iPhone after making 11 monthly payments. You can sign up to the programme right here.
