Since its redesign and reintroduction in 2012, the Chevrolet Colorado sold well as the automaker’s most prominent mid-size pickup truck offering. Chevy introduced a tougher and more powerful version at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show with the new ZR2.
The Colorado ZR2 features a wider track, lifted suspension, functional rockers and modified front and rear bumpers for better off-road clearance. The pickup will be the only vehicle in the class with front and rear electronic locking differentials, an available diesel engine and Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve damper technology.

According to Chevy, the Colorado ZR2’s DSSV dampers are position-sensitive. Their aluminum bodies house two spool valves providing both compression and rebound damping optimized for everyday driving. During off-road use, a piston-mounted spool valve delivers additional, tuned compression damping. The front dampers also employ a separate rebound valve, which comes into play when the suspension approaches full extension.
The ZR2 rides on 17×8 inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 31-inch Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires for exceptional traction. The front and rear track is widened by 3.5 inches with new cast-iron control arms for durability in off-road situations.
The front bumper of the ZR2 has tapered ends to increase tire clearance when approaching obstacles. The bumper includes a thick, aluminum skid plate that protects the radiator and oil pan, while the transfer case is protected by an additional shield. The entire package results in an armored, muscled up Colorado fully ready for full off-road use.
The for sale date of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is open, and final costs and trim variations are still inbound.
