June, 28, 1997 – ‘The Bite Fight.’
Even if you didn’t watch boxing in the 90s, you likely remember the bite heard ’round the world. Wednesday marks the 20th anniversary of the iconic Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield fight in Las Vegas. Ya know, the fight when Tyson decided to make a snack out of Holyfield’s right ear.
Here’s the famous bite.
Yahoo Sports also did a Lego reenactment if you care to watch.
It wasn’t until last year when Tyson went on Oprah’s show and gave a sincere public apology to Holyfield.
However, Fox Sports was able to get the two boxers together four years ago to talk about what happened. You can see them laughing about it now, which is crazy considering it was anything but a laughing matter in ’97.
That same year the two even teamed up for this genius Footlocker commercial where Tyson “gives back’ Evander’s ear.
What can we learn from this? Possibly that even the most machismo of men can be sincerely and brutally honest, even if it comes with giving a humble apology while throwing in some deprecating humor.
