Many people love rum simply because it’s cheap and accessible. Considering how it’s originally made from molasses, a byproduct of sugar production, it’s no wonder it’s cheap. However, there are countless rum drinks recipes out there that will offer you a whole new rum experience. You will be amazed by how much you can achieve with just this simple drink and a couple of ingredients. These are cocktails that you can serve at a fancy party, drink by yourself after a long and troublesome day at work, or share with your lover in a romantic home atmosphere. Take a look at our selection and try them all.

Daiquiri

We’ll start off with one of the most famous rum drinks ever – the daiquiri. The classic type is made with just three main ingredients: rum, lime juice, and syrup. Of course, it is essential that you use freshly squeezed lime juice and not something you’ve bought at a liquor store. It makes all the difference in the world. Just mix these ingredients and that’s it. After you master the ratio, you can try some different ingredients like adding bananas, oranges, or using a bit of whiskey.

Mojito

You’ve probably heard of this cocktail as well but didn’t know that it’s actually made with rum. Mojito is a favorite among the rum connoisseurs because it contains fresh mint that gives it a cooling note. Besides rum and mint, you’ll also need a bit of lime, soda, and sugar. You simply mix all those ingredients together and that’s it. Of course, to get the most out of that mint leaf, you’ll need a muddler. Not only will it help you squeeze the mint, it will also make you look cool while doing it.

El Presidente

If you’re looking for a perfect summer cocktail that you can enjoy on the beach, you need to try El Presidente. Although it’s generally a rule to use light rum for cocktails, El Presidente requires the lightest kind you can find. You combine it with pineapple juice and lime (of course, fresh) and that’s it. Certain rum drinks call for grenadine syrup but it really depends on your specific taste. It adds a little bit of sweetness that makes El Presidente a great drink.

Pina Colada

Pina Colada is must-have cocktail for those summer night parties especially if you go that extra mile and serve it in a coconut glass. It is essentially a simple drink that consists of rum (light, of course), pineapple juice, and some coconut cream. When it comes to this last ingredient, you can choose whether you’ll make the cream yourself or buy a canned one in a store. It doesn’t make that much difference, although fresh is always sightly better. Put everything in a blender and serve with a straw and a tiny umbrella.

Dark & Stormy

Sometimes, however, you just can’t be bothered with countless exotic ingredients and want to enjoy something simple and effective. This is where Dark & Stormy comes in. It is a perfect choice for lazy drinkers. Although there are various more complex recipes on the web, the original consists of only two ingredients – rum and ginger beer. Considering this is among the simplest rum drinks out there, you can use a slightly darker rum for a fuller taste.

Nevada Cocktail

Then there are times when you feel like experimenting and Nevada cocktail should be the first thing on your list. You use some good rum as a base along with some bitters. Grapefruit and lime come in next (do we need to say that these should be freshly squeezed?) At the very end, you add a little bit of sugar to counter the sourness and that’s about it. Why is it called a Nevada cocktail? Who knows?
