October has only begun, but there’s something spooky going on in Chicago and it has been for months. That’s because a mystery person or persons has been throwing eggs at people. Sure, in a small sample size this doesn’t seem like a big deal. As long as chickens have been laying eggs, kids, teenagers, and some adults suffering from arrested development have been hoisting them at unsuspecting people. Honestly, it’s been happening for so long it brings up the age-old question: what came first? The eggings or the chicken?

This isn’t a joke to the denizens of Chicagoland. There’s even a Facebook group with over one thousand members called “Chicago Egg Hunters” created to pass around information about the egger (or eggers) that some have dubbed “The North Side Scrambler”. Multiple people have been egged in or near the Lincoln Park Zoo and Logan Square since July and other areas of the city.

The one constant is that the eggings seem to be centered around the north side of the city (hence the nickname). While the mystery of who is behind these seemingly random eggings and why CBS Chicago reported that a man was fired from a furniture company due to his apparent involvement in the spat of eggings.

But here’s where things get a little sticky (or scrambled), the Facebook group doesn’t believe this man is the only egger. They believe there are others and potentially copycats. So, the city remains in the grips of terror due to an egger still at large. If you find yourself in the north side of Chicago any time soon, remain diligent, keep your eyes peeled for flying eggs, and maybe wear a raincoat even if the weather doesn’t call for drizzles. You never know what might fly through the air in your direction.
