Classic Taco Bell Menu Item Finally Returning After Several Years, But Diarrhea Never Left

Sure, you can go to Taco Bell and get a Gordita, Crunch Wrap, or Chalupa and be completely happy. But, in our opinion, there’s no menu item more entrenched in nostalgia than the classic Mexican Pizza. Throughout our youth and well into adulthood, no Taco Bell order was complete without this crispy, cheesy, magical treat. That is until it was so sadly removed from the menu back in November of 2020.

It was eliminated, along with a few other menu items, in order to create a faster, less cluttered restaurant menu and guest experience. It didn’t work. Regardless of whether dropping this dish made things more streamlined, people were pissed. They longed for this staple made up of two crispy flour tortillas, layered with beans, sauce, seasoned beef, tomatoes, and melted cheese.

Quickly, people took to social media to voice their complaints, Change.org petitions were made, and Grammy-award-winning rapper Doja Cat took to TikTok to plead for the menu item’s speedy return.

Finally, it appears the obviously evil overlords at Taco Bell took pity on us Mexican fast-food fans because Mexican Pizza is making its glorious return to the menu on May 19. While we’re all happy to see its return, this misstep will now go down in history with horrible ideas like New Coke and the McDonald’s Arch Deluxe.

So go ahead, be first in line for a Mexican Pizza in mid-May. But also be prepared to race for the bathroom after you eat it, because some things — like Taco Bell’s propensity to give everyone who eats there the runs — never change.
