Looks like Joss Whedon’s Marvel ties could be following Marvel characters beyond the confines of their own studio.
As reported by Crave film site SuperHeroHype, longtime Whedon collaborator Drew Goddard is in talks to direct Columbia Picture’s Spider-Man spinoff flick The Sinister Six.
Of course, Goddard, who cut his teeth writing for Whedon on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” before moving on to J.J. Abrams shows “Alias” and “Lost,” is already no stranger to Marvel’s roster of heroes and villians. Goddard was writing the screenplay for S6 as well as executive producing and showrunning Marvel’s “Daredevil” TV series for Netflix.
In case you’re concerned about Goddard’s directing chops, don’t forget he made his debut behind the lens helming the already-cult-classic horror-metahorror flick The Cabin in the Woods.
So far, no word on a release date for The Sinister Six (which, if keeping to the classic villain team lineup of Spidey adversaries, would feature Electro, Kraven, Sandman, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio and the Vulture). However, expect the spinoff to get scheduled — along with the announced Venom film — after The Amazing Spider-Man 3 opens June 10, 2016.
Meanwhile, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits U.S. theaters May 2.
