Leonardo DiCaprio, who has been in Canada working on various projects (including narrating a documentary on the oilsands as well as challenging the Prime Minister to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge), is involved in a new flick, “The Revenant,” for which an open casting call was held in Yellowknife.
Directors are in search of a 20-30-something-year-old First Nations’ woman, a CBC News article reported.
In “The Revenant,” DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a man who is out for revenge against those who abandoned him after a deadly bear attack. The movie takes place in the 1820s and also stars Tom Hardy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) and Will Poulter (“We’re The Millers”).
Emma Day, who is with the casting department for the movie, said prior to the Saturday casting call (to CBC News) about their search for a strong First Nations’ woman, “There’s no need to do makeup or costume – nothing like that – we just want who you are as a human being. She is with a lot of the lead characters in the film. And like I said, she’s a warrior, so she’s in all the warrior scenes that happen in the movie, and her part is integral to the story. It’s a very important role.” Callbacks then took place on Sunday.
“The Revenant,” which is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, will come out in theatres in 2015.
