If you were thinking about going in early on WB and Techland’s Dying Light, now may be a good time. The publisher has confirmed that pre-orders via Steam will be granted both an exclusive in-game weapon and an additional multiplayer mode. Entire modes just for buying early? You won’t hear me complaining.
Though there’s no guarantee that the planned “Be the Zombie” mode won’t reach the general public eventually, having access out of the gate is certainly a nice perk for those planning to grab the game anyway. The mode puts the player in the shoes (er, bloody flesh-stumps) of the Night Hunter, whom you must then use to invade the games of other players. With so many zombie titles planned for release in the near-future, any form of differentiation is most definitely a good thing.
Additionally, a weapon called the Punk Queen, a sort of roided-up crowbar, will be granted to Steam pre-order buyers as well. Unfortunately, it’s not yet clear whether pre-orders on other platforms will be granted the same prizes, so if you have a capable PC you may as well run with the Steam version. Or just wait it out and see.
In case you’ve been holed up in an apocalypse shelter, Dying Light is a survival horror action title from Dead Island developer Techland, slated for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC in early 2015. Given that the game’s zombies go absolutely bonkers when night falls (daytime is when you’ll do your scavenging and make preparations), having something like the Punk Queen on hand certainly sounds as though it’d be helpful. I know I want one — just be sure to pre-order before the January 27th release date if you’re feeling the same way.
