“Back to the Future” star Michael J. Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease back in 1991 and has been very vocal about the disease as well as his foundation, along with the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) for Parkinson’s Research, is suing a medical lab in New Jersey.
According to BANG Showbiz, the lawsuit, which was filed for breach of contract and negligence, claims that the New Jersey lab Coriell Institute for Medical Research failed to properly store samples after an employee left a freezer door open and as a result, the thawed medical specimens are now unsuitable for testing, setting back research into Parkinson’s Disease by years.
Furthermore, The Associated Press reported that the New York-based charity says it contracted with Coriell in 2010 and 2011 to store specimens for research into Parkinson’s, and the group says Coriell has been paid $3.5 million of the $4.3 million called for in the contracts.
Fox, who was born in Edmonton but holds dual citizenship in the States, has won three Emmy Awards as well as a Golden Globe. He has starred in the “Back to the Future” trilogy as well as “Family Ties,” “Boston Legal,” “The Good Wife,” Scrubs,” and “Rescue Me.”
Since 2000 MJFF has raised more than $450 million in research funds.
