Canadian director James Cameron, who is working on writing the next three “Avatar” sequels, has announced that the next flick will be delayed by a year – it will only be coming out in late 2017 instead of late 2016.
According to The Associated Press, Cameron, who hails from Kapuskasing, Ontario, told them from New Zealand: “There’s a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don’t get when you’re making a stand-alone film. We’re writing three simultaneously. And we’ve done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We’re not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we’re doing all the design. So we’ve designed all the creatures and the environments.”
Cameron is in New Zealand along with other directors like Peter Jackson helping to promote the local film industry.
The original “Avatar” flick, which came out in 2009, received critical praise, and it quickly became the highest grossing film of all time. It starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver. All three planned “Avatar” sequels will be written as well as directed by James Cameron,
