Seventeenth century English poet Richard Brathwait penned many books of dubious quality, but one in particular — “The English Gentleman” (1631) — has gained special notoriety. The book (which separates the male species into two groups: Men and Gentlemen) and its author has served as substantial inspiration for Brathwait, new-ish makers of fine and affordable watches.
