New HBO Comedy Ballers Premieres Sunday, June 21st

Ballers, a new comedy series coming this summer, hits HBO Canada on Sunday, June 21st at 10pm.

Exploring the whirlwind lifestyles and real-life problems of a group of former and current football players, the new ten-episode, half-hour comedy follows retired football superstar Spencer Strasmore, played by former Calgary Stampeder and University of Miami college football player Dwayne Johnson (San Andreas, Furious 7), who is trying to reinvent himself as a financial manager for current players in sun-soaked Miami, Florida.

In Ballers, Spencer’s inner circle includes: talented but volatile wide receiver Ricky Jerret (John David Washington), who seeks to balance his off-field antics with his passion for the game; Charles Greane (Omar Miller, CSI: Miami), a reluctantly retired lineman who’s finding it hard to adjust to civilian life; and Vernon Littlefield (Donovan Carter), a player with a rookie contract, whose promise never to ‘never forget where he came from’ brings scores of hangers-on into his life, and lands him in big financial trouble.

The series also stars: Troy Garity (Barbershop); Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine); London Brown (The Hustle); and Jazmyn Simon (The Slice).

Also on Sunday, June 21st on HBO Canada, the eagerly awaited second season of True Detective, starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, debuts at 9pm, along with the premiere of the new political comedy series The Brink, starring Tim Robbins and Jack Black, at 10:30pm.
