Omnia, the music-centric nightlife brand by Hakkasan Group, opened its anticipated San Diego outpost of its already popular Las Vegas Omnia Nightclub last month with an exciting, EDM-driven weekend kicked off by Krewella. The ladies of Krewella had already played the Vegas club and the duo’s Jahan Yousaf called it a ‘secret portal’ on Instagram, alluding to its stunning, well-lit, multi-armed Space Age chandelier.
Like Omnia in Las Vegas, Omnia San Diego aims to service the bottle service set, luring big spenders with top names in the dance world. Opening weekend at Omnia San Diego included Calvin Harris and DJ Chuckie, with the rest of May’s lineup at the GasLamp Quarter’s newest nightlife destination reading like the playlist from Sirius XM’s ‘BPM’ station: Borgeous, Nervo, R3Hab and on and on.
So how is Omnia San Diego different than its Vegas counterpart? For starters, it’s smaller, nowhere near as big as the 75,000 square foot Vegas flagship, yet still carries the same attributes that have won over fans of Omnia in Sin City – primarily, good indoor and outdoor spaces to socialize in. But it’s not located in a casino, so right off the top the vibe is different, and perhaps a bit more urban, reflecting the busy downtown San Diego neighborhood that surrounds it, which is always bustling on weekends.
Great lengths have been gone to by Hakkasan Group President Nick McCabe so that clubbers can feel the similarities between the two properties, right down to the same plush sofas familiar to VIP regulars at Omnia Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas flagship held its Grand Opening in March, where names such as supermodel Naomi Campbell, rapper P. Diddy and actress Sarah Hyland held court. Its not likely celebs will be dropping by Omnia San Diego on the regular, but neither will the constant mob of tourists.
Most of the crowd at Omnia San Diego probably could care less about celebrities anyway, and will be there just for the music, which is perhaps just as the owners would want it.
