It’s transfer deadline day, so as is tradition we’re standing in the eye of a storm of speculation surrounding which Premier League players will supposedly be moving away from their club. The biggest rumour to have emerged thus far is that Manchester United’s Juan Mata is being eyed up by Barcelona, after Spanish outlet Don Balon reported that the playmaker is in talks with the La Liga giants.
However, all signs point to this being misinformation, with notable football insider Guillem Balague branding it a “rubbish story” and Mata continuing to write on his personal blog for Man U, detailing his month ahead with the club.
On his blog, Mata wrote: “There is no time to enjoy the win in the FA Cup because we are already focused on our game against Stoke tomorrow. This is a very busy month with seven games and our aim is to try to win them all, starting with Stoke, who beat us in the first half of the season.” He added that hopes Man U maintain the “dynamic, fluid style” that led to their 3-1 FA Cup victory against Derby – hardly the words of a man who expects to leave the club later today.
Rubbish story of the day: the rumours about Mata. He is staying put, doesn’t want to go, United don’t want to sell at all

While some Manchester United fans are expressing their concerns on social media regarding Mata potentially moving away from the club, this almost certainly won’t be the case. Mata hasn’t personally responded to these reports, though he did post a tweet informing his followers of his favourite David Bowie song. So at least that’s something.
Hi everyone, a little teaser for you before I write my weekly blog… https://t.co/mcIjrki6Zn
