Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge last night for Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final match against Chelsea, but his former club did not give him a warm welcome.
Mourinho, who watched over as Chelsea bested Man U 1-0, was subjected to a round of abuse from the home fans, who chanted “Judas”, “You’re not special any more” and “It’s all your fault” at the 54-year-old. In response, Mourinho held up three fingers in reference to the number of Premier League trophies the club won under his leadership, prompting a chorus of boos from those still sore over his mediocre final Chelsea run.
Speaking after the match, Mourinho addressed the Chelsea fans’ reaction to his Stamford Bridge return. “The fans can call me what they want,” he said. “I am a professional. I defend my club. Until the moment [Chelsea] have a manager that wins four Premier Leagues for them, I’m the number one. When they have somebody who wins four Premier Leagues for them, I’ll be number two. For this moment, ‘Judas’ is number one.”

Mourinho also insinuated that referee Michael Oliver had cost Manchester United their past four games, after two yellow cards were shown to Ander Herrera in the first half following fouls on Eden Hazard. “I think we all watched the match until the red card and after the red card and then we can compare the decision of the two yellow cards in this case with other ones that were not given, but I don’t want to go in that direction,” he said in a post-match interview with the BBC.
“Mr Michael Oliver – a referee with fantastic potential. Manchester United were a bit unlucky. In four matches, three penalties and one red card in such an early moment of the game but again I cannot change that.”
