Canada’s most beloved (and one of the most recently awarded) filmmakers, Xavier Dolan, is up for the Palme d’Or, the highest accolade, at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for his movie Juste la fin du monde (or, It’s Only the End of the World).
His 2014 flick Mommy took home the prize that year. This is the sixth time that he is at Cannes.
Juste la fin du monde is based on the play by Jean-Luc Lagarce and stars Marion Cotillard. It follows a man who comes back to his hometown to announce that he is dying. This is Dolan’s fifth film to be considered at Cannes Film Festival. He is only 27 years old.
Other Canadians participating in Cannes include Two Lovers and a Bear by Kim Nguyen and Mean Dreams by Nathan Morlando (both of which will premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight), and screening at the 55th Critics’ Week is the short film Oh What a Wonderful Feeling.
The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 11-22, where Juste la fin du monde will see its worldwide premiere.
