Pay Attention Australia, We’re Getting Our Own ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ This Year

The resurrected Whose Line Is It Anyway? series is proving to be just as popular as  the original. Foxtel have recently cottoned onto this and have let it be known today that later in the year, Australia will be getting its very own, locally produced branch of the iconic comedy program.

That’s right, the show where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter will be setting up shop on our shores. At this stage there’s talk of comedian Tommy Littlewhom you know from appearances on The Project, to take up post in Drew Carey’s seat. Ten episodes have been confirmed by the network, which will be filmed in Melbourne and aired on Comedy Central later in the year.

In a statement, Foxtel’s head of premium entertainment Graham Burrells clears up some questions, explaining it will be similar to the original concept – four comedians, no script, no planning, nothing off limits – with a good dose of Australiana to boot.

“Whose Line Is It Anyway? has been a favourite on The Comedy Channel for many years and we are excited to do our own local version. The new show will be an energetic and unpredictable event with a fantastic cast of comedy heavyweights and new talent. It’s Whose Line but not as you’ve seen it before.”

Already you can put your hand up to be in the audience with the first filming happening on July 9th and more dates to be firmed up around then.

The original series, hosted by Drew Carey and featuring our childhood favourites Ryan Stiles and Colin Mocherie managed to make the jump across the pond to start a UK branch. Three years ago, it was revived in the US with Aisha Tyler as the cardholder.
