For fans of either Donald Glover, Community or even Childish Gambino, it’s been a long time coming. But news today via Deadline has confirmed that our boy has once and for all scored a role in an upcoming Spider-Man film dubbed Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The lead role of Spiderman/Peter Parker has already been cast to Captain America: Civil War Spidey Tom Holland (Fun fact. the kid from Billy Elliot) but there is still every chance that Glover will be cast as Miles Morales who, in the Marvel Ultimate Universe is selected to be the natural successor to Spiderman.
Given just how prolific the campaign has been for Glover to appear in Spider-Man, it would be pretty weird for Sony or Marvel to cast him in a different role, ja feel? The one area of concern being that Morales is but a teenager when the baton is passed to him. Not sure how old Glover is these days but a teen he ain’t.
Come to think of it, Donald Glover wouldn’t fit into a Homecoming setting at all. The Hollywood Reporter suggests that Glover might be cast as Morale’s father, but that would be a bit lame for fans of both brands. Over the past 6 years, a fan grass-roots campaign actively petitioned for Glover to play the role of Spider-Man.
While the role for 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man eventually went to Andrew Garfield, Glover did voice the character of Miles Morales on Disney XD’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.
ForSpider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Keaton has been cast as The Vulture, Marisa Tomei will be Aunt May and Zendaya as a potential love interest maybe?
Spiderman: Homecoming is scheduled to drop 7th July 2017.
