The dust has yet to settle on Fast & The Furious 7 but already the wheels for the next installment are in motion. Anyone who thought that the franchise may have jumped the shark can STFU as producers have locked down none other than Dame Helen Mirren to feature in Fast & The Furious 8
The news came from Mirren herself who revealed to Elle her involvement in the film while peddling her current film Eye In The Sky. The film is an honest and valid discussion about the morals involved in drone strikes, something you’d assume was far more Mirren friendly, however as she puts it:
“I like to be serious…Having said that, I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that’s for the fun of it.” Just casually dropping bombs like it ain’t no thang.
Turns out that Mirren is a pretty big bad ass and only agreed to do the part if she could do her own driving, traction control off we assume. “We’ll see how it transpires” she admits but damn, Dame Helen Mirrin double shuffling through some chicanes / exploding police cars in a matte black GTR with blue neons? How could any producer refuse that in their right mind.
We probably should have seen this coming given Mirren openly expressed her desire to feature in the films during an interview on BBC’s Graham Norton Show, explaining at the time, “Things explode all around you. That with cars would be my dream come true.”
Careful what you wish for, Dame. Mirren has squared off with some of Hollywood’s greatest talent in her time but no-one quite as talented as Dom Toretto A.K.A Vin Diesel. Homeboy’s got the gift.
Mirren has clocked up some camera hours behind the wheel. Who could forget her appearance on Top Gear. On second thoughts, better watch your back, Toretto.
