Liam Gallagher has apologised for homophobic comments he has made towards Russian fans at the Euro 2016 tournament, after labelling those inciting violence in France as “batty boys”.
Taking to Twitter, the former Oasis frontman said: “I’d be more worried bout getting me arse pinched”, after referring to Russian supporters using the homophobic slur. He later apologised for his comments, writing: “If I’ve upset anybody with my tweets I apologise that includes you RKID as you were.”
Gallagher’s followers and other Twitter users were quick to call the singer out for his comments, with one writing: Especially in light of what happened in Orlando a few days ago, that tweet is ugly and upsetting.” Another added: “Batty boy?!? Seriously?? After last weekend??!! Ignorant homophobic little man.”

England and Russia fans continue to collide with one another during the Euro 2016 competition, with them ignoring a warning from UEFA which stated that both national teams would be banned from the tournament if their fans didn’t curb their violent behaviour. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland supporters continue to shame England by being thoroughly courteous during Euro 2016, with them having been filmed tidying up after themselves after a drinking session in the streets of Paris.
