Mighty No. 9 has had a divisive launch. The game, touted as a spiritual successor to the classic Mega Man series, has received mostly negative reviews across the board, with many of those who backed the game via the crowdfunding site Kickstarter expressing regret at having handed over money for it.
Now even Sonic The Hedgehog has jumped on the bandwagon, with the series’ official Twitter account throwing this perfectly timed piece of shade in the direction of the game:
Congrats on the launch, @MightyNo9!

The tweet is in reference to a comment reportedly made by Mighty No. 9‘s creator Keiji Inafune, who appeared on a live stream earlier today discussing the new game. When asked about whether or not there would be a sequel to the game, Inafune’s translator Ben Judd said: “The reality is they put everything into making this game. They didn’t try to microtransaction it out, they didn’t try to DLC it out for extra money. They put it all in.
“So, for now, this is what you see and what you get, for the Mighty No. 9 world. But, again, we can hope that if things go well, there’ll be sequels. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least, that’s my opinion.”
However, even though Judd was translating Inafune’s comments, there has been some debate in regards to whether or not this was Inafune’s opinion or his translators. Regardless, those who have bought the game were understandably unhappy with this careless statement, and Sonic The Hedgehog’s social media team were more than willing to capitalize.
