The Philadelphia 76ers took advantage of their all-time multi-season tank job by selecting Ben Simmons with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft.
The Australian teen was the only player in D-I to average 19 points, 11 boards and 4 assists per game while at LSU last year. He’s the first No. 1 overall pick for Philly since the franchise took Allen Iverson in 1996. That pick worked out pretty well. Iverson is a Hall of Famer who got the Sixers to the Finals.
Some feel Simmons could be the next LeBron. I say he’s more of a Grant Hill/Paul George type — either way he’s a future perennial All-Star.
Here’s a glimpse at what Philly is getting:
However, in no way, shape or form is Philly done making moves. Simmons is a 6-10 forward. Just look at their other current prospective starters:
Jahlil Okafor, 6-11 Center
Joel Embiid, 7-0 Center
Nerlens Noel, 6-11 Center
Ish Smith, 6-0 Point guard
Yeah. They gots works ta do.
But these fans were excited!
The Lakers took Duke star Brandon Ingram at No. 2 overall. They still have work to do as well.
