The Leftovers may be coming to an end in 2017, but its leading lady, Carrie Coon won’t be off TV for long! She’s just moving to another channel.
TVLine is reporting that Carrie Coon has signed on for the third season of FX’s Fargo series in a leading role. She’ll be playing Gloria Burgle, who is described as “a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics. Gloria is the chief of the Eden Valley police, and a newly divorced mother, who is struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them.”
That line about the phones suggests that the rumors of Fargo season 3 taking place in or near the present appear to be accurate. The first season was set in 2006, while the second season jumped back to 1979.

After sitting out of 2016, Fargo’s third season is expected to premiere in early 2017. Aside from Coon, the only currently cast lead actor is Ewan McGregor, who will be playing a dual role as rival brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit will be the older, more successful brother; while Ray will be the younger and embittered brother who blames his sibling for his lack of success.
Given the impressive casting of the first two seasons of Fargo, it seems likely that Coon and McGregor will be joined by some high-profile performers. With only ten episodes per season, it’s not a long-term commitment. There’s no word on whether Fargo will return for a fourth season, but if it does, it will feature an all-new cast.
