Bryan Singer & Matt Nix Plan ‘X-Men’ Related TV Show

Last year, Fox and Marvel TV struck a deal to bring the X-Men spinoff TV series Legion to FX and Hellfire to Fox. While Legion already has a series coming this year, Variety is reporting that Hellfire has been extinguished. In its place, Bryan Singer and Matt Nix have a new X-Men-related series.

According to Variety, Fox has given a “put pilot commitment” to Nix and Singer’s currently untitled series, which is not directly based on any of Marvel’s mutant superheroes. Instead, the focus will be on a family with two human parents who discover that their children have developed mutant powers. To protect their children from anti-mutant bigots and even the government, the parents will go on the run and reluctantly become a part of the mutant underground to survive.

Nix previously created Burn Notice for USA and The Good Guys for Fox. He also appears to be the main creator behind this series, with Singer as an executive producer. As per the previous deal struck by Marvel and Fox, Marvel TV is producing the series alongside Fox, but Fox is handling the actual production. This will also be Fox’s first live-action Marvel series if it goes forward.

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe,” said Fox’s President, David Madden in a statement. “There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

It’s not clear which characters from Marvel’s comic book universe would be allowed in the series, but it would likely be lesser known creations who haven’t already been seen in the feature films.
