Exclusive Video | ‘The Magicians’ Season 1 DVD

Imagine a world where magic is real. In Syfy’s adaptation of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, that world is a reality…and life isn’t just a poor imitation of a Harry Potter novel! In the beginning of the show, a graduate student named Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) was enrolled at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy. However, Quentin’s friend, Julia Wicke (Stella Maeve) didn’t make it into Brakebills, so she had to learn magic the hard way while exploring the underworld of a society that she barely knows.

Next week, The Magicians season 1 is coming to DVD and Blu-ray. Fans will have the chance to catch up on the 13 episode first season before season 2 hits next year. The first season set will also include an extensive featurette about the making of the series, including this exclusive clip that finds executive producers Sera Gamble and John McNamara, as well as series stars Ralph, Maeve, Arjun Gupta, and Summer Bishil talking about the three worlds on the show: reality as we know it, Brakebills, and Fillory; a fantasy land that Quentin had only read about as a child.

Gamble’s comments are particularly intriguing, as she explains the different visual approach to each environment.

The Magicians season 1 will be released on Tuesday, July 19 for DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD, which includes the episodes in their uncensored forms with commentaries from the actors and the producers. There’s also a gag reel and several deleted scenes that flesh out the world.
