No Man’s Sky is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, but its trailers thus far haven’t really explored what excites me the most about the game – the hunting and gathering of resources and materials to trade with alien races.
Though many are most likely looking forward to the game’s sprawling space combat, or the hunting of weird and wonderful creatures in its procedurally generated world, I’m more giddy about the opportunity to fly my little spacecraft around, collecting minerals and then shilling them at the nearest space port.
Fortunately for me the latest trailer released by PlayStation places a spotlight upon this aspect of the game, showing a player blasting down giant rocks and collecting the debris, before travelling to a docking station and flogging their findings to an NPC. The same NPC pops up twice in the clip, though there will be other races available to encounter as you play, with players tasked with deciphering their languages in order to better understand them.
I spent a lot of time in fellow space exploration game Elite Dangerous serving as an intergalactic UPS driver of sorts, working my way between various star systems in order to maximize my profit while trying to keep my cargo safe from enemy pirates. No Man’s Sky looks like it’ll allow me to carry out the same routine, only with more visually appealing surroundings and docking stations I can physically board, greeting its alien inhabitants before trying to convince them to buy a lump of space coal.
According to the new trailer “every trade tells a story,” though what these stories entail remain to be seen. Watch the clip below:
