Reports are splattering across the sports world Tuesday that Tim Tebow has made the decision to try out for professional baseball.
The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFLer has supposedly been training for months and is just now announcing the decision. He will hold a workout for Major League teams later this month.
Don’t forget, Tebow is also a broadcaster for ABC now, and the announcement of the decision came through the network.
For almost the past year, Tebow has been training in Arizona and Los Angeles to hone his play as a professional batter and outfielder in a sport he has not played on a full-time basis since he was in high school in 2005.
Tebow was an All-State baseball player in Florida and hit .494 as a junior, helping Nease High School reach the final four of the Florida state playoffs.
While he certainly would have had a shot in a different league like the CFL, Tebow has been adamant about only being a quarterback in the NFL. He’s been unsuccessful at getting another shot since being released by the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad last year. He hasn’t taken a regular season snap since he was with the Jets in 2012.
It’s great he’s honing his skills somewhere else. While he’s nearly 29-years-old, and it will be nearly impossible at this point to work his way up through the Minor League system, and he will be mocked at every corner, those who choose to not support the most likable guy on the planet are just jealous they don’t have the talent Tebow does.
The only question is which team will give Tebow a shot? I’m hoping it’s the Rockies. That way we would get to see Tebow with the Class-A Nuts. Hey, the minor leagues ain’t easy.
You go, Tim Tebow. You go.
