Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin both had stints on Glee before starring in Supergirl and The Flash, respectively. Following last season’s cross-network, crossover between the two-shows, fans jokingly suggested that there should be a musical crossover between the two series. And now, it’s really happening!
Via our sister site, Superhero Hype, The CW announced the new Flash and Supergirl musical crossover at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. The crossover will be held back for the second half of the TV season, in either episode 13 or episode 14 of the respective series, which will air in 2017. This is separate from the four-way crossover between, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow that will come later this fall.
Gustin and Benoist aren’t the only ones with musical talent on their shows. Jesse L. Martin is an accomplished singer and was a part of the original cast of the hit Broadway musical, Rent. Carlos Valdes has also had a stint on Broadway in the musical Once.

Several bits of casting news were also made at the panel, including Supergirl‘s latest additions: Sharon Leal as Miss Martian and Chris Wood as Mon-El, while Dolph Lundgren will have a recurring role on Arrow‘s fifth season flashbacks, which will explore Oliver Queen’s time in Russia and wrap up the final year of Oliver’s backstory on the series. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will also be introducing Lance Henriksen as Obsidian, a member of the Justice Society of America.
Another interesting tidbit is that Savitar will be one of this year’s main villains on The Flash. Casting for that role has not yet been revealed, but in the DC Universe, Savitar was a Cold War fighter pilot who was exposed to the Speed Force and gained the ability to steal speed from others. Savitar also formed a cult around his religion of speed and went up against the third Flash, Wally West.
The Flash season 3 begins on Tuesday, October 4, with Arrow season 5 bowing on Wednesday, October 5. Supergirl season 2 starts the next week, on Monday, October 10, and then DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 2 hits on Thursday, October 13.
