Netflix Signs Alison Brie To Star in ‘G.L.O.W.’ Reboot

During the ’80s, the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling TV series found a way to co-exist with the WWF on local syndicated stations by going over-the-top with its scripted comedy and matches. Now, G.L.O.W. is getting a reboot on Netflix, with Community star Alison Brie as the star!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brie has signed to play the lead role in G.L.O.W. Her character is named Ruth, and she will be an out-of-work actress who finds one last chance for fame when she joins a women’s wrestling federation. The new incarnation of G.L.O.W. was co-created by Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Orange Is the New Black), and executive produced by Jenji Kohan, the creator of Weeds and Orange is the New Black.

Brie has been highly sought after for new television projects since the end of Community and Mad Men, but she has primarily been focused on her upcoming films including The Masterpiece and The Headhunters. Brie also lends her voice to the animated comedy series, BoJack Horseman. Her former Community co-star Gillian Jacobs already stars on Netflix’s Love

Netflix hasn’t revealed when G.L.O.W. will begin filming or when it will premiere, but a 2017 or 2018 premiere seems likely. The original incarnation of G.L.O.W. still has a fanbase and the subject of the 2011 documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. While we expect that most of Brie’s costars will be new to G.L.O.W., we wouldn’t be at all surprised if some of the original stars appear in the reboot.
