Super Mario Run is Coming to iPhone in Apple and Nintendo Collaboration

Nintendo is collaborating with Apple in order to bring its Super Mario series to the iPhone and iPad.

Super Mario Run is a brand new game for iOS, with it essentially being an endless runner game albeit with a side-scrolling twist. Mario will auto-run in each level, with the goal being to get to the end-of-level flag before the time runs out and collecting as many coins as possible. There will also be a new battle mode called Toad Rally, with the objective being to beat rival players’ high scores. Toads will appear in the audience for players to “impress” them with “daring moves.”

Mario creator and gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto appeared on stage in order to announce the new game, outlining its mechanics by way of an English translator. The game follows the success of Pokemon Go on mobile, which garnered a huge amount of revenue for Nintendo and has seemingly set the precedent for Nintendo’s foray into mobile gaming.

Miyamoto announced that Super Mario Run would be a paid game, though pricing has yet to be revealed. It will be released later this year.
