The rumors of a Zach De La Rocha solo album are the stuff of legend, going as far back as 2003 when the former Rage Against the Machine frontman teamed up with DJ Shadow for “March of Death.”

A full album was promised, but never materialized and talk of De La Rocha’s dream team collaborations with Trent Reznor and Questlove seemed to be like music lore that lived only on Reddit with Reznor reasoning in a 2011 interview that the enigmatic raptivist was frustrated that the new material sounded like he was repeating himself, “We did some stuff that I thought was pretty cool, and it was frustrating because I also knew it would never see the light of day. It would get to the point where—Zack, I’m saying this with love—but it was the riddle of “I can’t do this, it sounds too much like Rage.”

Well, myth finally became reality today as De La Rocha debuted a solo single “Digging For Windows.” The fiery track is a Molotov cocktail in music form, featuring stellar staccato production work from El-P of Run the Jewels fame.

The good news kept coming as El-P, who De La Rocha previously worked with on the Run The Jewels’ single “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck),” confirmed on his Twitter account that a solo De La Rocha album will arrive next year and that “there is more where that came from.”
