It’s become a bit of a tradition for Batman writers to introduce younger heroes in Gotham City who fight alongside the Dark Knight. For Scott Snyder, that hero is Duke Thomas, a young man who co-opted the Robin name alongside several other teenagers in We Are… Robin. But Duke captured Bruce Wayne’s attention because of his brilliant mind, and he’s now training to be a new kind of superhero. Someone beyond just another Robin.
But no one enters the Dark Knight’s inner circle without suffering a personal tragedy or three. Duke’s personal crisis came about during the Joker’s Endgame, when Duke’s parents disappeared. They’ve since been found, but they’ve been driven permanently insane. In CraveOnline’s exclusive preview for All-Star Batman # 2, Snyder’s back up story with artist Declan Shalvey finds Duke attempting to reach his mom through her madness. And there’s just enough of her left to really twist the figurative knife in Duke’s heart…
The primary story of All-Star Batman # 2 is by Snyder and artist John Romita, Jr., which finds Batman continuing his attempt to cure Harvey Dent of his Two-Face personality once and for all. But first, Bruce Wayne will have to deal with the apparent betrayal of his most trusted ally. And we trust that there’s a good explanation for this, Snyder! Here’s what DC had to say about the issue:
“’My Own Worst Enemy’ part 2! All aboard the train ride from hell! Batman and Two-Face continue their journey to Harvey Dent’s cure through an assassin-infested landscape. But can the Dark Knight continue his crusade across the countryside when Two Face turns one of his greatest allies against him?”
All-Star Batman # 2 will be released in comic stores everywhere on Wednesday, September 14.
