Final Fantasy XV PC Port Would Take Over a Year to Develop

A Final Fantasy XV PC port would take over a year to develop, the game’s co-director Hajime Tabata has claimed.

In an interview with Spanish site Vida Extra, translated by by WCCFTech (via PCGamesN), Tabata revealed that those hoping Final Fantasy XV will finally make its way to PC will be waiting a considerable length of time, as it would take Square Enix over a year to bring the upcoming RPG to the platform. Here’s Tabata’s statement on the matter:

“On that hypothesis, not talking about something real, just an idea, if we worked on a PC version what I have very clear is that we would work to provide a better version of what we have now on consoles. We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course.”

Considering the multitude of delays that Final Fantasy XV has gone through, we’d wager that a year-long developmental cycle for a PC port may be optimistic. Though this is bittersweet news for PC owners who were hoping that FFXV would make it the platform sooner rather than later, at least it’s confirmation that Square Enix has at least banded about the idea of a PC version.

Alongside Final Fantasy XV‘s console launch on November 29, Square Enix is also busy working on Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was debuted at E3 2015 but has been mostly kept under wraps by the developer since its unveiling. Rumors suggest that the episodic game will launch in three parts, with the first episode arriving in 2018 followed by its second and third episodes in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Square is also working on Kingdom Hearts 3, which has also not yet received a release date, so the studio’s hands are likely tied when it comes to finding staff that it can assign to FFXV. We’d rather wait it out than cause delays to the FFVII remake and Kingdom Hearts 3, but hopefully the latest iteration in the RPG series will find a home on PC in the future.
