The Walking Dead may be one of the biggest hits on TV, but it’s not exactly an uplifting show. It was never intended to be a comedy, and it’s pretty hard to crack a smile when the world is overrun by zombies and most of the survivors are pretty horrible people.
Fortunately, NOW TV has enlisted British comedy legend John Cleese to offer his take on the series in advance of the seventh season premiere this Sunday, October 23. In just over four minutes, Cleese walks fans and newcomers to the show through most of the major highlights of the show’s history to date. Along the way, Cleese lays out four important Walking Dead lessons to live by. Lesson 1: zombies are not called zombies. Lesson 2: there are no safe places. Lesson 3: never look at the flowers. Lesson 4: stop forgetting lesson 2!

We’re not actually convinced that Cleese is an avid watcher of the series, but his take on Rick and the Governor is highly entertaining. “Patchy Pete” is just too perfect, although we have to take issue with his one-star Trip Advisor rating for Woodbury. That didn’t earn any stars in our book! It’s almost too bad that Cleese himself is almost too famous to appear on the show without being distracting. Still, he may make a good Talking Dead guest. Chris Hardwick certainly seems to think so, which means it’s a possibility.
