2016 Screen Music Awards Winners Announced

The 2016 Screen Music Awards were held last night at The Sydney Recital Hall, celebrating the power of music in film and dolling out the credit where the credit is due.

Among the long list of nominees, husband and wife composing force Darren Seltmann (ex-Avalanches) and singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann shone bright, taking home ‘Best Original Song Composed For The Screen’. The event, hosted by Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen of The Chaser, awarded this to the power-couple for their song Dancing In The Darkness (below) composed for The Letdown, which aired on the ABC last year.

Other winners included Caitlin Yeo’s ‘Best Music For A Documentary’. She was up against the likes of Melbourne’s screen music big-wig David Bridie may we add, so this win with her composition for Getting Frank Gehry, is a huge achievement. The Beautiful Lie composer Alan John took home ‘Best Music For A Mini-Series Or Telemovie’, also up against the likes of Bridie.

Industry superstar Antony Partos claimed two awards this year, which were ‘Feature Film Score Of The Year’ for 99 Homes, a collab with Matteo Zingales; and ‘Best Soundtrack Album’ for Sherpa, giving him a grand total of 11 awards since ’04.
