Blizzard Will Change Mei’s Waist Size in Overwatch After Complaints

Blizzard has stated that Overwatch character Mei’s waist appearing smaller in her Chinese New Year skin is the result of a “bug,” and that the developer is ready to roll out an update to the costume that will be more in line with her original design.

After the latest batch of new Overwatch skins were revealed, fans of the game began pointing out how Mei looked noticeably slimmer in her Luna and Chang’e costumes than in her previous attire. Considering that many appreciated that Mei was larger than the average female video game character, some were concerned that Blizzard had decided to slim down the character for this new event.

However, many pointed out that there was something a little “off” about the overall designs of these skins, most noticeably that they gave Mei a hump not unlike that which you’d see gracing the back of a camel.

Soon enough the complaint made its way to Blizzard’s forums, with a thread titled ‘Where Did Mei’s Waist Go?’ receiving a response from the company’s community manager Stephanie Johnson, who wrote: “There’s a bug with Mei’s Luna and Chang’e skins right now that’s causing her waist to appear much smaller than normal. We’ve already fixed the bug internally, but it’s going to require a patch to implement (ideally it’ll be included in whatever next patch hits your gaming platform).”

People immediately began questioning the sincerity of this statement, suggesting that Blizzard had changed Mei’s character design but were now back-tracking after receiving complaints. However, judging from the above image of the character’s weird backside, we’d wager that this was an actual bug and that the developer didn’t intend for her new skins to look the way that they currently do. There’s no word yet on when a patch will be released to fix these issues with the Chinese New Year event, but we imagine it’ll be sooner rather than later.
