The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch with a season pass, with the $19.99 bundle allowing players to get their hands on the game’s downloadable content later this year.
Nintendo is branding it the “expansion pass,” with it encompassing the first ever batch of DLC for the main-line Legend of Zelda series. According to the press release, the season pass will grant players access to two new sets of DLC for the game when they become available later this year, with it also unlocking bonus content for the main game.

After pre-purchasing or purchasing the season pass, players will be to access three locked treasure chests that will appear in the game’s Greater Plateau area, which will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo on it that Link can wear during his adventure (ugh), along with two “useful items.” The first of the two content packs that will launch for the game will include the Cave of Trials challenge, a brand new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will feature new challenges set in a new dungeon, along with a new original story. The packs will launch in summer 2017 and Holiday 2017 respectively.
The season pass will be made available for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of Breath of the Wild, with it being identical on both copies of the game. The packs will not be able to be purchased separately, and can only be unlocked by purchasing the entire season pass.
A statement released by The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma reads: “The world of Hyrule, which we created for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is so large and vibrant that we wanted to offer more for players to experience within it. With this new Expansion Pass, we hope that fans will play, explore and enjoy the game even more.”
